HC Deb 09 April 1959 vol 603 c371
37. Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what further recent representations have been made to him concerning the sale to small children of toy flick knives; and if he will make a statement about the replies he has made.

Mr. R. A. Butler

No representations have been made to me about the sale of toy flick knives.

Mr. Iremonger

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is concern about the sale of these toys, because they are regarded as putting wrong ideas into the minds of children? Will he give the matter his consideration?

Mr. Butler

I have investigated these knives, which appear to have a black plastic handle and a blade of soft polythene. It would be very difficult to legislate, and I think that we must consider the Bill which is being introduced to deal with real flick knives before we consider toy ones.
