HC Deb 09 April 1959 vol 603 c371
38. Sir F. Medlicott

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware of the difficulties which continue to be experienced in administering various provisions of the Shops Act, 1950, particularly in relation to early-closing days; and if he is yet in a position to introduce amending legislation to remove the anomalies which now exist.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I know there are difficulties, but I can make no statement at present about legislation.

Sir F. Medlicott

Even if my right hon. Friend and his colleagues cannot bring in the necessary legislation in this Parliament, they will no doubt be able to do so in the next.

Mr. Butler

We had better wait and see.
