HC Deb 19 November 1958 vol 595 c1155

3.46 p.m.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department and Lord Privy Seal (Mr. R. A. Butler)

I beg to move, That Sir Thomas Dugdale, Mr. Ede, and Sir Henry Studholme have leave of absence to present, on behalf of this House, a Mace to the House of Representatives of The West Indies. I will confine myself to saying that I feel sure that the two right hon. Gentlemen the Members for Richmond, Yorkshire (Sir T. Dugdale) and South Shields (Mr. Ede), and the hon. Baronet the Member for Tavistock (Sir H. Studholme), carry with them the good wishes of this House in their important mission. They will take with them the best wishes of the House of Commons to the House of Representatives of the West Indies at this particularly important time in the development of self-government in the West Indies and the working of the House of Representatives. I feel sure that the House will give to the right hon. and hon. Members from our midst its very best wishes and support.

Mr. Hugh Gaitskell (Leeds, South)

I have much pleasure in supporting the Motion and I desire, on behalf of this side of the House, to associate my right hon. and hon. Friends with what the Leader of the House has said.

Question put and agreed to.
