HC Deb 19 November 1958 vol 595 cc1142-3
27. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when the Government propose to ratify the Convention and Protocol on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict which came into force on 7th August, 1956.

Mr. Ian Harvey

Her Majesty's Government are still examining the obligations they would assume by ratifying this Convention, the provisions of which are very complex. Until this examination is complete I can give no date for ratification. As the Protocol attached to the Convention has not been signed by Her Majesty's Government, no question arises of their ratifying it.
