HC Deb 11 November 1958 vol 595 c173
15. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made up to date with the Forth Road Bridge.

Mr. Maclay

Work under the contract for the piers, foundations and anchorages began at South Queensferry on 1st September and the formal driving of the first pile will take place in ten days' time. I understand that preliminary workshop prefabrication work has also started under the contract for the bridge superstructure.

Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that when he performs the ceremony on the 21st of this month he will carry with him the good wishes of many thousands of people throughout the length and breadth of Scotland?
