§ 3. Mr. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what action he has taken to co-ordinate publicity of the Government's plans to deal with unemployment and short-time working.
Dr. HillThe speeches of my right hon. Friends in the debate shortly to begin will indicate the Government's plans to which the hon. Gentleman refers, and any necessary steps will be taken to ensure a widespread understanding of their nature and their wisdom.
§ Mr. LewisAre we to take it, therefore, that during all these months in which the unemployment problem has been growing, neither he nor the Government have been giving any consideration to the question of publicising their plans to deal with this? Have we still got to wait until a Minister makes a speech in this House before we can have any idea of the Government's plans? Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that he ought to do something to give the country an idea of the Government's plans on this matter?
Dr. HillThe hon. Gentleman must control his impatience and listen to the debate that is to follow. I do not accept the assumption that nothing has been done to co-ordinate the information services in relation to the steps that have been taken.
