HC Deb 21 May 1958 vol 588 c1275
15. Miss Vickers

asked the Postmaster-General what decision he has made in regard to the site of the new General Post Office in Devonport.

Mr. Marples

Negotiations for a new site are still in progress. I am writing to my hon. Friend, and will keep her informed of developments.

Miss Vickers

I thank my right hon. Friend for agreeing to write to me on the subject—I have already had three letters from him—but is it fair that Plymouth should have two General Post Offices and Devonport none? I hope that my right hon. Friend is not taking the same view as the Socialist leader of the local council, that Devonport is a suburb of Plymouth.

Mr. Marples

I can assure my hon. Friend that I realise the importance of Devonport. I will write to her after the next meetings have been held between the Ministry of Works estate surveyor and the developers' architect. I shall then have more tangible information.
