§ 17. Mr. Swinglerasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, the proportions of Britain's research scientists who are at present engaged on research on nuclear weapons, medicine and agriculture, respectively.
§ Mr. H. NichollsOn the basis of information collected for the Advisory Council on Scientific Policy, it is estimated that the proportions of Britain's professionally qualified research scientists and engineers engaged on Government-supported research on medicine and agriculture in 1955–56, were approximately 5 per cent in each case. It would not be in the national interest to give the corresponding figure for research on nuclear weapons.
