HC Deb 26 June 1958 vol 590 c582
8. Mr. Hamilton

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has yet completed his inquiries into the trading practices of the Lomond Discount Company Limited; and what action he now proposes to take.

Sir D. Eccles

No action is required. The company has now told me that it has discontinued its credit facilities business.

Mr. Hamilton

Is the right hon. Gentleman really satisfied with that undertaking? Is he aware that there is a great deal of anger and unhappiness, not only among consumers but among the competitors of these people, who practise things which are not recognised as morally justified in the business world? Will he give some further study to this matter, in order to see that these undesirable practices are stopped?

Sir D. Eccles

We have a number of inspectors who look into these matters. I am very anxious to bring wrong practices to an end.
