HC Deb 10 June 1958 vol 589 c16
62. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what reply has been sent by Her Majesty's Government to the letter from Mr. Dom Mintoff asking for a neutral United Nations commission to supervise any future elections in Malta; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Acting Governor has replied on my behalf saying that I regret that Mr. Mintoff did not avail himself of the Governor's invitation to the leaders of all parties to meet him before he left for the United Kingdom, but that the letter would be considered during my present discussions with the Governor, together with the views of those political leaders who did take advantage of the Governor's invitation.

On the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I have given today to Questions Nos. 20 and 41 by my hon. Friends the Members for Haltemprice (Mr. Wall) and Sunderland, South (Mr. P. Williams).
