HC Deb 30 July 1958 vol 592 cc1334-5
10. Mr. Skeffington

asked the Secretary of State for Air what proportion of the wives of Royal Air Force Service men living with their husbands abroad are registered as Service voters.

The Secretary of State for Air (Mr. George Ward)

Approximately 40 per cent.

Mr. Skeffington

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is a very low proportion, and that my information is that quite a number of wives of officers and men do not get the forms? Will he see if something can be done so that these unfortunate people are not deprived of their civic rights?

Mr. Ward

Every year an Air Ministry order and a notice board information leaflet are issued drawing attention to the date by which people should apply if they want to be included in the register for the following year, and the leaflet includes a paragraph relating specifically to what wives should do.
