56. Mr. Partridge

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if, in view of his repeated insistence on the urgent need for more multi-storey car parks in London, he will consult the London County Council with a view to relaxation of their building standards for open-sided garages so as to reduce their cost.

Mr. Watkinson

We have consulted the London County Council and I am glad to say that they have already approved revised safety standards for open-sided garages. Details of the relaxations are contained in an Appendix to their publication "Construction of Buildings in London", which, with permission, I will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT. I particularly welcome this practical step, which will do much to encourage the provision of much-needed garages in London.
