HC Deb 10 July 1958 vol 591 c552
30. Miss Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement in regard to the staffing of the Maendaleo Wa Wanake Clubs in the Central Province, Kenya.

Mr. Profumo

There are seven Government community development officers, eight Government homecraft assistants and 194 homecraft assistants in local government service helping these clubs do the Central Province. They are assisted by voluntary workers and others employed by the voluntary agencies.

Miss Vickers

By how many have these numbers been cut? I understand that these clubs mean progress for women and that some of them are short of staff and will not be able to carry on if the emergency fund runs out.

Mr. Profumo

I have no actual figures. I know my hon. Friend's interest in this matter, and I will see what I can do to get more accurate information.
