asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many independent schools are now registered in Scotland.

Can the Joint Under-Secretary say how many independent schools have still to be registered; and, when these independent schools are registered, what steps are taken regarding their supervision?

All known schools have applied for registration. The figures I have given are those provisionally registered; 107 of those have been inspected since provisional registration, and we are getting through the whole number as quickly as we can.
