HC Deb 24 February 1958 vol 583 c26
35. Mrs. Slater

asked the Minister of Health what precautions are in operation in tuberculosis hospitals or wards to prevent cracked or crazed pottery from being used.

Mr. Walker-Smith

All hospital authorities have been advised that badly chipped crockery should not be used, and that all crockery used by tuberculous patients should be washed and heat treated. It is for each authority to ensure that proper precautions are observed.

Mrs. Slater

While thanking the Minister for that reply, may I ask whether the Department could send out a further warning? I will let the right hon. and learned Gentleman know the name of a hospital where there is a tremendous amount of cracked and crazed pottery in use.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The last circular in regard to this matter went out in June, 1953. It may be, as the hon. Lady says, that the time has come for a reminder.
