§ 29. Mr. Remnantasked the Minister of Health whether he will consider establishing an intermediate stage. Such 26 as hostels, for Broadmoor patients between Broadmoor and release on licence.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithThis has been considered from time to time, but so far the provision of a special hostel has not been found practicable.
§ Mr. RemnantDoes my right hon. and learned Friend not appreciate the difficulty patients have of establishing themselves and re-accommodating themselves to normal life when released? Is it not the case that where a satisfactory guarantor is not available the tendency is to keep these people on as patients in Broadmoor?
§ Mr. Walker-SmithI have no information that the last point raised by my hon. Friend is so. The patients come to Broadmoor from all over the country, and the normal practice is for them to return to their local areas, where, of course, the mental after-care service provided by the local authorities is available to them.
