HC Deb 03 February 1958 vol 581 cc800-1
35. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to what extent he uses the Scottish banks.

Mr. Godber

Four accounts are maintained with Scottish Banks for the official purposes of the Ministry.

Mr. Hughes

Will the Joint Parliamentary Secretary consider himself as a small depositor in Scotland? Is he aware that the Scottish banks have just announced an increase in charges to small depositors, something which is greatly resented in Scotland? Will he consult the Chancellor of the Exchequer with a view to having an inquiry made to see whether he is being overcharged?

Mr. Godber

So far as the Ministry is concerned, the extra charges do not apply to public accounts. I am afraid that I could not accept the hon. Member's invitation at this stage.
