HC Deb 15 May 1957 vol 570 cc379-80
10. Mr. Lipton

asked the Postmaster-General how much estimated additional revenue would accrue from increasing the inland letter rate to 3d.

Mr. Marples

Making certain reasonable assumptions, about £7½ million.

Mr. Lipton

Although this increase would, to some extent, cover the present deficit of £11 million, can we have an assurance from the right hon. Gentleman that he will not make this increase?

Mr. Marples

No increase has been announced.

Mr. Lipton

Can we have an assurance that the Post Office will not impose the increase?

Mr. Marples

That is a hypothetical question.
