HC Deb 09 May 1957 vol 569 c1151
8. Mr. Lipton

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education what action he is taking to encourage the appointment of more games masters.

Sir E. Boyle

My noble Friend has taken steps to increase the number of qualified teachers of physical education, and local education authorities need no encouragement to employ all that can be trained.

Mr. Lipton

Is the Minister aware that before long there may be a number of excellent P.T. instructors who will be redundant in the Services and who would be quite suitable for these appointments, and that a number of suspended professional footballers are available already? Will he do something about it?

Sir E. Boyle

I do not think that any professional footballers are available. I think that the hon. Gentleman knows that the teaching of games is only part of physical education, but we have been able in particular instances to increase the number of people trained in the whole of this subject.
