HC Deb 11 March 1957 vol 566 c794
40. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the barley used by brewers and maltsters in 1956 was home grown.

Mr. Amory

Ninety-eight per cent.

Mr. Hurd

Is my right hon. Friend well satisfied with the present-day quality of beer, which is brewed almost entirely from English barley and English hops?

Mr. Amory

I think so. The voluntary arrangement made seems to be working out very satisfactorily.
