HC Deb 29 July 1957 vol 574 c842
2. Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Supply whether he will make a statement on redundancies at the Ministry of Supply factory at Nancekuke, Cornwall.

The Minister of Supply (Mr. Aubrey Jones)

Forty-eight industrial employees were declared redundant in June. So far only eight have gone. The remaining discharges will be spread over the next two months.

Mr. Hayman

May I ask the Minister to bear in mind that the urban district in which this factory is situated suffered very severely from unemployment in the inter-war years? Will he take this into consideration?

Mr. Jones

Yes, Sir. I am very conscious of that, although it is primarily a consideration for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour.
