HC Deb 14 February 1957 vol 564 c1430
35. Mr. R. Bell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the proportion of foreign students in relation to the total number of students at British universities at the present time.

Mr. Powell

The latest available figures relate to the academic year 1955–56, when foreign students accounted for 4.4 per cent. of the total number of students at universities in Great Britain.

Mr. Bell

Has my hon. Friend any figures indicating whether this is an increase or a decrease on previous years?

Mr. Powell

I shall be glad to look into that point.
