HC Deb 13 February 1957 vol 564 c1262
38. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what representations he has received in respect of congested passenger transport to and beyond the Borough of Leyton.

Mr. Watkinson

I have received through hon. Members a number of representations about these train services with suggestions for improving them. I understand that the local authorities have referred the matter to the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the London area and will be meeting the Committee for a discussion.

Mr. Sorensen

Is the Minister aware that since petrol rationing the congestion has become worse, if anything; that I have travelled many times there and have found it hard to breathe? Can the right hon. Gentleman not indicate some means by which this severe disability can be eased for passengers who go to Leyton and beyond?

Mr. Watkinson

I know the difficulties, and as soon as the meeting has taken place and there is anything I can usefully do, I shall be only too happy to look into the matter.
