21. Mrs. Butlerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when he expects to issue a circular to local authorities with regard to the purchase of requisitioned houses.
§ Mr. H. BrookeThis circular—number 30/57—was issued the week before last. I have sent the hon. Member a copy.
Mrs. ButlerI thank the Minister for that reply and for having issued this long-awaited circular, but is he satisfied that the 25 per cent. of local authorities affected by the circular who have more than 100 families in requisitioned properties will have a reasonable chance of carrying out the programme demanded of them in the next three years, bearing in mind all the difficulties that they have had to face in coping with this problem?
§ Mr. BrookeI have sympathy with those local authorities which have a heavy load of requisitioned premises to deal with, but I think that those who set about the job energetically can reasonably expect to complete what they have to do within the next three years.
