HC Deb 30 April 1957 vol 569 cc16-7
22. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what reply he has sent to the Liverpool City Council which has asked him to meet a deputation following his refusal to allow subsidy under the Housing Subsidies Act, 1956, Section 3 (3,e), for house building at Kirkby, Liverpool.

Mr. H. Brooke

I have informed the council that I am willing to meet a deputation on this matter.

Mrs. Braddock

Is the Minister aware that the local authority will be very pleased about what he has said? The prospect of the ratepayers of Liverpool being faced with an annual requirement for the payment of £200,000 for the next sixty years, because of his initial refusal, was really staggering to them.

Mr. Brooke

Without accepting what the hon. Lady has said about the merits of this matter, I would say that I recognised that the Liverpool City Council was a very important authority and I thought that I should hear its views across the table.
