HC Deb 16 April 1957 vol 568 c1742
40. Sir R. Boothby

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will arrange for an experiment to be carried out for the location of herring shoals in the North Sea by means of helicopters.

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. John Maclay)

I am considering, in consultation with the Herring Industry Board, proposals which have been put forward by a private firm for a trial in the summer.

Sir R. Boothby

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that it is absolutely vital that herring should be found in the North Sea this year? Otherwise, the herring industry may pack up altogether. My right hon. Friend must neglect no possible method— by air, on the sea, and, if necessary, under the sea—of finding, them.

Mr. Ross

Will the right hon. Gentleman, after he has tried this out—and we hope that it will be a success—use the same method to locate the missing members of the Scottish Grand Committee?
