HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 cc1124-5
44. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when he expects to make a decision with regard to the D ring road route through north-west Middlesex; and if, in view of the extension of the area of uncertainty and actual financial loss to house-owners, due to the publication of alternative routes, he will make an interim statement immediately he can exclude any one alternative from consideration.

Mr. Watkinson

I am well aware of the desirability of reaching a decision on this matter as soon as possible, but my inquiries are not yet complete.

Mr. Beswick

Is the Minister aware that there has been a very long delay in this matter? I agree that it is not all the fault of the Ministry. Where normally there may be some uncertainty or financial loss to householders, who may be dispossessed from their properties in the future, in this case there are so many alternatives that many people are affected who will never be included in the scheme. Will the right hon. Gentleman see whether he cannot make some interim statement?

Mr. Watkinson

I will do my best, but the hon. Gentleman knows from experience in his own constituency that this is perhaps one of the most difficult road problems to solve anywhere around London.
