22. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation why Cavendish Bridge on A.6 has not been completed as officially stated on 31st October, 1956.

Mr. Nugent

Because of a mishap with one of the main bridge beams, completion of the scheme has been delayed. Despite this, I hope that the bridge will still be finished within the original contract period and opened to traffic by next July.

Mr. Janner

Is not the hon. Gentleman aware that this is a highly essential and important matter to be dealt with? Cannot he press it forward more than he has suggested?

Mr. Nugent

The completion will be within the terms of the original contract.
