§ 25. Mr. Warbeyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from which countries he has received official representations against the actions of Her Majesty's Government in the Middle East.
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerOfficial representations about Her Majesty's Government's intervention in Egypt have been received from the Governments of Iraq, Jordan, Libya, the Soviet Union, China, Indonesia and Nepal.
§ Mr. WarbeyWill the hon. Gentleman add to that list all the representations that have been made to British Ambassadors and Ministers in foreign capitals? If he gave this House a true list, would it not show how low this country's esteem has fallen as a result of the action of Her Majesty's Government?
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerNo. I rebut what the hon. Gentleman has said. He asked about official representations, and I have given a true answer to that question. As to what these Governments said at that time, and their initial reaction, there is now almost universal support for the proposal for a United Nations police force, and I hope that hon. Members opposite will support it.
§ Mr. GowerIs it not a fact that some countries which have been so prompt in denouncing British action have been far less prompt in denouncing real and brutal aggression elsewhere?
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerCertainly.
