HC Deb 12 November 1956 vol 560 c546
27. Mr. Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what recent requests have been received from the French Government asking for British assistance in regard to Algeria.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

No requests have been made to Her Majesty's Government for their assistance in Algeria.

Mr. Allaun

Following the use of French troops against Egypt, will the Minister give the House an undertaking that under no circumstances will British Service men be used against the Algerian people?

Mr. Dodds-Parker

There again, I cannot give a snap undertaking like that, but it is quite clear from what the French Government have said that they regard this as purely an internal matter.
