13. Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will now make a statement regarding the extension of self-government to Somaliland and the association of the Protectorate and the Trust Territory for this purpose.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

purpose; and how they have been financed.

Mr. Hare

There are ten such statutory bodies. As the other details are long and complicated, I will, with permission, circulate them in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Brockway

In view of the fact that the delegation from Somaliland came here in January, and that it was then indicated that a statement would subsequently be made, will the right hon. Gentleman make a statement at any early date, reassuring the people of British Somaliland that they will have an opportunity to join the people of the Trust Territory if they so desire?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We are here building for the future, and I think it is extremely important that great care and consideration should be given to the statement which I shall make, which will not be very long delayed.
