HC Deb 22 March 1956 vol 550 cc1560-1
Mr. Henderson Stewart

I beg to move, in page 22, line 43, to leave out subparagraph (iii) and to insert: (iii) the amount of the additional allowance in respect of the period before the commencement of the Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1956, shall be calculated at the rate of one-thirtieth of the pensionable salary of the teacher for a year of service. This is also a drafting Amendment, but perhaps I had better explain it. In the early drafts of the Bill the proposed subsection (1, b), instead of stating the proportion of the pensionable salary to be taken into account in assessing the lump sum, provided that the proportion was to be prescribed in the teachers' superannuation scheme. The proviso which it is here proposed to delete was in appropriate form for the earlier drafts of the Bill, but it is not appropriate to sub-paragraph (1, b) as it now appears in the Bill. The proviso which it is proposed to substitute is in an appropriate form and will have the effect which the original proviso was intended to have. Consequently, this really is a drafting Amendment.

Amendment agreed to.
