HC Deb 21 June 1956 vol 554 c1615
25. Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has for amending the Heating Appliances Act, 1952.

Major Lloyd-George

None at present.

Mr. Greenwood

Does the Home Secretary appreciate that to a large extent the testing provisions of this Act are a dead letter? Has he considered representations from the Association of Municipal Corporations and other bodies?

Major Lloyd-George

The Act contains provision by which it is illegal to sell certain fires without guards, and so on. The whole matter is a rather difficult one. There is quite a difficulty, for example, in connection with open fires. If the hon. Member has any ideas on the matter, I shall be glad if he will let me have them.
