HC Deb 11 June 1956 vol 554 c26
35. Mr. Brian Harrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has yet received the annual report of the National Pig Records; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nugent

My right hon. Friend expects to publish a report giving the full results of the first year's working of National Pig Records in about three months time. I am glad to say that membership is still growing. There are now 2,400 members with 36,000 recorded sows representing 61 per cent. of the total sow population of England and Wales.

Mr. Harrison

Whilst thanking my hon. Friend for that answer, would he say that the increased membership, and the increased number of animals being recorded, is an indication of the desire of the farming community to increase its efficiency in this respect?

Mr. Nugent

Yes. Sir, I think it is a satisfactory start.
