HC Deb 26 July 1956 vol 557 cc609-10
7. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has now been made in the setting up of progeny testing stations for pigs in the country.

Mr. Amory

Good progress is being made with building the first station at Selby (Yorkshire), which I hope will be ready to start testing early next year. Tenders for the other three stations in England and Wales have been accepted.

Mr. Price

Are the finances for these stations being found by a levy or direct from the Treasury?

Mr. Amory

The capital cost of these stations is to be met by the Government, in the first instance, and recovered from the industry over the years through the mechanism of the Annual Price Review.
