HC Deb 26 July 1956 vol 557 c609
6. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he proposes to take in connection with the marketing of pigs and bacon as a result of the Report of the Reorganisation Commission on Pigs and Bacon.

Mr. Amory

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Rye (Mr. Godman Irvine) on 12th July.

Mr. Price

Will the Minister bear in mind that the present state of affairs in the pork and bacon market is so uncertain that it would surely be better, in the interests of producers, consumers and taxpayers, to implement something like the recommendations of the Commission in the not too distant future?

Mr. Amory

I note with interest the hon. Member's view. I think he will agree that the whole question is a most important one, and that I should be right to take some reasonable time for its consideration and discussion with the interests concerned before making up my mind.
