HC Deb 24 July 1956 vol 557 c183
7. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for War what improvements are to be made in Service rations.

Mr. Head

I cannot say anything at present.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

We were told that two months ago. Is the Secretary of State aware that the present inadequate scale of rations has to be supplemented by soldiers out of their own pockets? Can he give an assurance that if there are to be any economies they will not be at the expense of the men's food?

Mr. Head

It was only a month ago, I think the hon. and gallant Gentleman will find—

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Two months.

Mr. Head

—but the whole question, as I have told hon. Members before, is being gone into, and I hope that I shall be able to say something about it in the near future.
