HC Deb 19 July 1956 vol 556 c1362
16. Commander Scott-Miller

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory state of the Fisher Fleet at King's Lynn; what steps have been taken to secure improved facilities for the fishermen of the port; and whether he will make a statement.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Mr. D. Heathcoat Amory)

Yes, Sir. The difficulty is to establish who is the responsible authority for the Fisher Fleet where no charge is made for accommodation. My officials are at present discussing the position with the local interests.

Commander Scott-Miller

While thanking my right hon. Friend for that reply, which sounds very encouraging, may I ask him if he is aware that up to now no local body has accepted responsibility for the facilities for the fishermen of the port, and that the men feel that they need someone to take care of them in future?

Mr. Amory

Yes, I am fully aware of the point which my hon. and gallant Friend has raised.
