HC Deb 02 July 1956 vol 555 cc982-3
36. Mr. B. Harrison

asked the Minister of Health whether he will advise hospital management committees whose coal-burning boilers are obsolete to convert to fuel oil; and what action is being taken by his Department to ensure fuel is not wasted.

Mr. Turton

The choice of fuel must depend on a number of factors, including local conditions and cost. A large part of the £6 million available this year and next for plant replacement will be spent on new boiler installations which, I hope, will reduce waste; I intend shortly to introduce a scheme of training for hospital stokers to ensure more efficient stoking.
