HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 c169
4. Mr. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to give an estimate of the added income payable per week to all adults in receipt of less than £2,000 per year as a result of confiscation of all net incomes over £2,000 and their redistribution to those in receipt of less.

Mr. H. Macmillan

The aggregate net income in excess of £2,000 each of all those whose net income after deduction of Income Tax and Surtax is £2,000 or more is expected this year to be just over £110 million. This would be sufficient, if confiscated and redistributed, to provide about 1s. 2d. a week for every other adult member of the population.

Mr. Osborne

I am much obliged for that answer.
