§ 6. Mrs. L. Jegerasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will introduce legislation to confer power on gas and electricity boards to enable them to cut off supplies in cases where written danger warnings of faulty apparatus have been ignored by consumers and life is thereby endangered.
§ Mr. Aubrey JonesElectricity boards already have this power, and the question whether it could usefully be conferred on gas boards is among those which I am considering with the Gas Council in my general examination of what I feel to be the serious and growing problem of gas poisoning accidents.
§ Mrs. JegerHas the attention of the Minister been called to a report in the News Chronicle of 8th February of an inquest on a constituent of mine who, unfortunately, lost his life because the landlady had neglected two danger warnings from the gas board, warnings of which the tenant himself was unaware? Will the right hon. Gentleman consider urgently the necessity of preventing similar fatalities?
§ Mr. JonesI have seen the report in question, and I am treating this as a serious and urgent problem. Whether that consideration will lead to quite the measures the hon. Lady has in mind is, of course, another matter.
