HC Deb 07 February 1956 vol 548 cc1491-2
29. Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is now able to state what action he has taken as a result of the contravention of the Control of Borrowing Act, 1947, to which his attention was called by the Report of the Board of Trade Inspector on the affairs of the Chinese Mining and Engineering Company Limited.

Mr. H. Macmillan

The papers relating to this case have been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for his consideration.

Mr. Jenkins

Do I understand from the Chancellor that no decision has yet been taken? It is more than three months since I last asked his predecessor about the position, and I was then told that the matter was being considered. Ought it not to be hurried up?

Mr. Macmillan

I think that if the hon. Member reads my reply carefully he will see that it would not be proper for me to add anything.
