asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the Report of the Select Committee on the anticipation of parliamentary debates.

I have been asked to reply.

It has been necessary to sound opinion in various parts of the House, and this is continuing. I hope to give the Government's decision before very long.

Will that be before we rise for the Christmas Recess?

I cannot be absolutely certain, because I would rather have another talk with the right hon. Gentleman the Leader of the Opposition first before I come to a final conclusion.
