asked the Prime Minister what discussions he has had recently with the Prime Minister of France on the need for co-ordinating their defence and economic policy to meet a potential aggressor.

Yes, Sir, constructive discussions.

Mr. Hughes

Could the right hon. Gentleman tell us whether at any time during these discussions they regarded the United States as a potential aggressor? Is he aware that at a banquet in France the hon. Member for Preston, North (Mr. J. Amery) said that the threat of the United States—

I do not think that the Lord Privy Seal is responsible for what is said by the hon. Member for Preston, North (Mr. J. Amery).

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that statements have been made that this country was—
