38. Mr. Hyde

Certain classes of foreigners can travel to Colombia and the Dominican Republic without visas. In the case of Colombia, they require "business transit cards," and in the case of she Dominican Republic "tourist cards."

39. Mr. Hyde

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made towards the conclusion of agreements for the mutual abolition of visas with those countries which require United Kingdom visitors to be in possession of passports with the appropriate visas.

Mr. Nutting

No negotiations for the conclusion of further mutual visa abolition agreements are at present in progress, and the list of countries with whom such arrangements have been concluded remains as given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health to the hon. Member on 31st October last.

Mr. Hyde

Will my right hon. Friend say what is the position with regard to Spain, which is the only Western European country which has not made this visa abolition agreement with this country? What is holding back negotiations with Spain?

Mr. Nutting

We invited Spain to conclude such an agreement in April, 1955, but they replied that they were unable to do so.
