HC Deb 27 October 1955 vol 545 c350
9. Wing Commander Bullus

asked the Minister of Education what action he has taken on the Report of the Central Advisory Council for Education.

Sir D. Eccles

This valuable Report has drawn attention to the problem of early leaving, and I am glad to say that more children appear to be staying on than ever before. Most of the recommendations in the Report do not call for direct action by me, but as my hon. and gallant Friend knows I have encouraged local education authorities to increase the number of their grammar school places where these are low.

Wing Commander Bullus

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied that the facilities and equipment for the teaching of science in schools are adequate?

Sir D. Eccles

No, Sir, I am not satisfied; but we are taking steps to improve these facilities and I hope shortly to have something to say about it.
