§ 39. Mrs. Mannasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will institute an inquiry into monopoly and restrictive practices in the manufacture and sale of margarine and other foods.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithNo, Sir. My right hon. Friend does not propose to make further references in the immediate future.
§ Mrs. MannWould the Parliamentary Secretary consider making references in the not-so-immediate future? In other words, would he put this on his priority list? One cause of inflation is that margarine, irrespective of brand or price, is so tasteless and insipid that housewives are having to purchase butter?
§ Mr. Walker-SmithWhile not necessarily, or at all, accepting the wider implications contained in the hon. Lady's statement, this, amongst other matters, will be considered when the time comes. At present, the Monopolies Commission is very heavily engaged.
