HC Deb 16 November 1955 vol 546 c399
51. Mr. R. Bell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will, by regulation, require heavy vehicles to have traffic indicators of a kind clearly visible from directly behind the vehicle.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am awaiting a further report by the Road Research Laboratory on direction indicators. When I am considering it, I will bear in mind my hon. Friend's suggestion.

Mr. Bell

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that signals are frequently given from the cabs of these heavy vehicles and they cannot be seen by traffic behind owing to the size of the rear of the vehicle, and this frequently constitutes a grave danger on the roads?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

That is a very serious part of the problem.
