HC Deb 15 November 1955 vol 546 cc196-7
40. Mr. Braine

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give a firm date when land at Crouchman's Farm, Great Wakering, Essex, at present requisitioned by his Department, will be released.

Mr. Head

We promised to give this derequisitioning priority on the assumption that the land would be required for a school. I understand that this question is still in the air. I have given instructions, however, that we are to free the site as quickly as possible.

Mr. Braine

Is my right hon. Friend aware that I was told by his Under-Secretary of State five months ago that derequisitioning was being "put into effect at once," and that the matter was being dealt with as one of priority? Is my right hon. Friend aware that the executors in this case have been embarrassed? Could he not look into the matter to find out whether something cannot be done very urgently?

Mr. Head

At that time my hon. Friend told the Under-Secretary of State that this land was going to be used as a site for a school, and I understand that he was wrong.
