HC Deb 15 November 1955 vol 546 c188
21. Mr. Hyde

asked the Secretary of State for War what steps he has taken to increase the security of United Kingdom military establishments in the light of recent raids by members of the Irish Republican Army.

Mr. Head

A number of precautions were taken but for obvious reasons I do not want to specify them.

Mr. Hyde

Is my right hon. Friend quite satisfied that these precautions really are adequate? There has been a good deal of public disquiet about these raids, particularly in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Head

No one can ever forecast that any precaution is absolutely safe but I am satisfied that full precautions have been taken. If we went even further, the waste of manpower would be such that the precautions would not be practicable.
